Beginning Monday, May 3, the Ottawa Street Entrance and lobby will be closed due to construction. Please use the Chicago Street entrance on the east side of the building. The Circulation desk and self checkouts will be near the Chicago Street entrance, right when you walk in.
Construction has begun! Staff will be moving work spaces, as well as our collection to accommodate construction. Construction will begin on the Chicago Street side of the building on the Chicago Street Entrance, as well as a new security office, which will be opened up to the public as one of Project Burnham's goals.
The bonds will be paid through library reserves and the Rebuild Illinois Community Development Initiative, a capital improvements grant. In the coming weeks, we will continue meeting with our architects and construction management team on design. Construction is expected to start early next year! After an extensive RFQ process, SMC has been chosen as the construction management company for Project Burnham. SMC has worked on 12 Illinois public library remodeling projects and received glowing reviews.
