Week 5 of Phase One! This week, crews worked on shoring up the beams in the ceiling and installing door frames before they can drywall. You can also see the hole that was dug on the Clinton Street side of the building, which will be used as a new staff entrance.

Ottawa Street Entrance and Lobby
Beginning Monday, May 3, the Ottawa Street Entrance and lobby will be closed due to construction. Please use the Chicago Street entrance on the east side of the building. The Circulation desk and self checkouts will be near the Chicago Street entrance, right when you walk in.
Construction Begins
Construction has begun! Staff will be moving work spaces, as well as our collection to accommodate construction. Construction will begin on the Chicago Street side of the building on the Chicago Street Entrance, as well as a new security office, which will be opened up to the public as one of Project Burnham’s goals.

The bonds will be paid through library reserves and the Rebuild Illinois Community Development Initiative, a capital improvements grant. Library Board voted to engage Shales McNutt Construction (SMC) as construction management company for Project Burnham
After an extensive RFQ process, SMC has been chosen as the construction management company for Project Burnham. SMC has worked on 12 Illinois public library remodeling projects and received glowing reviews.
