Construction Begins

Construction has begun! Staff will be moving work spaces, as well as our collection to accommodate construction. Construction will begin on the Chicago Street side of the building on the Chicago Street Entrance, as well as a new security office, which will be opened up to the public as one of Project Burnham’s goals. 

Joliet City Council ratifies ordinance for Project Burnham bond sales

The bonds will be paid through library reserves and the Rebuild Illinois Community Development Initiative, a capital improvements grant. In the coming weeks, we will continue meeting with our architects and construction management team on design. Library Board voted to engage Shales McNutt Construction (SMC) as construction management company for Project Burnham 

After an extensive RFQ process, SMC has been chosen as the construction management company for Project Burnham. SMC has worked on 12 Illinois public library remodeling projects and received glowing reviews. They will soon begin working with Engberg Anderson Architects and library leadership to finish the design.
